Tarik Casteel, owner of TLC Construction & Renovations, knows all about barriers and how hard it can be for ex-offenders to find good jobs. He is one. But he also knows hard work pays off.
In 2008, after serving his sentence, Tarik started a small, soon-to-be-successful construction firm in Harrisburg where he employees and trains many ex-offenders through a nonprofit he also started, TLC Work-Based Training Program, Inc. The company soon created approximately 20 jobs and became a Certified Minority Owned Enterprise HUD Section 3 development firm and general contractor in Pennsylvania. Thanks to their reputation for a strong work ethic, dependability and professional results, Tarik and his team have built long–standing relationships with a host of local contractors, and the work keeps coming.
Over the years, Finanta fund has helped Tarik build his business. We provided a significant line of credit to support his cash flow as he took on one of the largest transactions in his business’s history – a $1.2 million contract to renovate 160 units of low-income housing for the City of Harrisburg. Subsequently, we have broadened our support by financing equipment purchases for his growing business. Tarik Casteel and his crew remind us that there is always more to the story than the construction project itself.
