Hardena Restaurant
Owners: Diana and Maylia Widjojo
Location: Philadelphia, PA
Business: Indonesian Restaurant
Purpose of Loan: Credit Building and Working Capital
Hardena Restaurant is one of the best kept secrets in Philadelphia. Started by Indonesian immigrants Harry and Ena Widjojo over 20 years ago, this neighborhood dining spot is now operated by their daughters Diana and Maylia. Known locally for their incredibly popular Indonesian cuisine, buzz for this small dining establishment has grown over the years. Besides numerous reviews in regional press, Hardena was also featured in Guy Fieri’s Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Diana and Maylia had big plans after taking over the restaurant in 2017. They soon realized that they needed some assistance in obtaining capital and building their knowledge in financial business management. They turned to FINANTA and enrolled in the Affinity Group Lending Program. As members of this program, they attended many workshops, worked on building their credit, and were able to secure a loan to inject working capital into the business.
In their current location, the first floor dining space is very limited. The sisters planned on renovating the second floor of the building to expand dining capacity when the COVID-19 hit. To help them weather the pandemic, Finanta assisted them in securing an SBA Paycheck Protection Program loan and a PA COVID-19 Relief Program grant. As a result, the future for Hardena Restaurant continues to look very bright, which is a relief to local “foodies” and those just looking for a delicious meal.
