FINANTA Overview

FINANTA, short for Financing and Technical Assistance, is a non-profit community lender with over 20 years of experience supporting financially underserved businesses and individuals in achieving their financial goals. In the past year, FINANTA provided technical assistance to 1,170 clients and deployed $5.3 million in loans to 212 small businesses, first-time homebuyers and consumers. Due to an increase in the demand for services, FINANTA is looking to hire a new Small Business Loan Officer to support the Vice President of Business and Consumer Lending and the growth of the Business Lending program.

Job Summary

The Project Manager will work closely with the VP of Technical Assistance to support business clients in improving their financial well-being and strengthening, growing and expanding their businesses. This includes the provision of project management services, one-on-one financial coaching, educational workshops, project-specific grant application management, and general departmental support. The technical assistance department of FINANTA is continually innovating, which offers a creative work environment and an opportunity for growth and upward mobility. A strong candidate will be mission driven with experience working directly with clients to lead a project from its inception to completion.

Responsibilities and Duties

Project Management

  • Supports businesses in developing goals for growth and expansion
  • Provides bidding and contractor selection advice
  • Advises on meeting City and County code and building ordinance requirements
  • Connects clients with referrals for legal advice, architectural services, business plan development, and other business service needs
  • Coordinates with suppliers and vendors to ensure that clients are obtaining fair quotes
  • Maintains an open line of communication with clients, vendors, contactors etc.
  • Visits project sites to evaluate progress and to respond to customer’s concerns or questions
  • Communicates and follows up with clients about specific projects and their goals
  • Delivers workshops on project management processes

Project-Specific Grant Application Management

  • Assists clients in project-specific grant applications when applicable
  • Reviews written estimates for clients based on labor, materials, equipment and other expenses
  • Generates invoices and disbursements based on services rendered
  • Oversees grant disbursement logistics and develops funder reports on grantee progress
  • Delivers workshops on available business grants and application requirements

Financial Coaching

  • Provides one-on-one financial coaching and credit counseling to borrowers preceding and throughout the term of the loan
  • Facilitates workshops on topics including, but not limited to, credit building, budgeting, debt management, and asset building.
  • Creates personalized goal-focused action plans with each client and provides follow-up support
  • Provides credit-builder loans to unbanked small businesses seeking access to capital
  • Assists clients in city, state or federal benefits screening on an as-needed basis

Admin/Departmental Support

  • Develops a network of referral professionals and services 2
  • Maintains accurate records as to reporting requirements
  • Coordinates with lenders to provide technical assistance
  • Provides feedback on departmental growth

Marketing and Outreach

  • Represents FINANTA at networking events in the community when needed
  • Attends conferences and workshops as required by funders or when deemed beneficial for the individual and/or organization
  • Bachelor or Associates degree with at least 2 years of relevant work experience, preferably in one or more of the following fields: credit counseling, financial education, financial coaching, financial services, banking, and adult education
  • Spanish and English Fluency required
  • Excellent people skills with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team
  • Resourcefulness in setting priorities, managing workloads, and proposing new ways of creating work flow efficiencies
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment
  • Flexibility in last-minute scheduling changes, self-starter attitude, and willing to work nights and weekends when needed
  • Responds promptly to customer requests for service and assistance
  • Responds to management direction; takes responsibility for own actions; keeps commitments; completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan for completion
  • Project leadership experience, including developing work plans and schedules, tracking/reporting progress, managing multiple complex projects and deadlines
  • Ability to travel to meetings, conferences, and to provide technical assistance as required. Anticipated travel to be between four and ten out-of-state trips a year
  • Ability to follow-up in a timely manner and to work under tight deadlines/schedules
