FINANTA Overview

FINANTA, short for Financing and Technical Assistance, is a non-profit community lender with over 20 years of experience supporting financially underserved businesses and individuals in achieving their financial goals. In the past year, FINANTA provided technical assistance to 1,170 clients and deployed $5.3 million in loans to 212 small businesses, first-time homebuyers and consumers. Due to an increase in the demand for services, FINANTA is looking to hire a new Financial Capability Officer (FCO) to support the AVP of Technical Assistance in delivering personal financial technical assistance to all prospective, active and past borrowers.

Job Summary

The Financial Capability Officer will work closely with the AVP of Technical Assistance to ensure a smooth delivery of FINANTA’s client-facing financial capability services. This includes the provision of one-on-one financial coaching, workshop facilitation, referral management and general departmental support. The technical assistance department of FINANTA is continually innovating, which offers a creative work environment and an opportunity for growth and upward mobility. A strong candidate will be mission driven with experience working directly with clients both individually and in a group setting to build financial capability and increase economic security.

Responsibilities and Duties

Direct service

  • Provides one-on-one financial coaching and credit counseling to borrowers preceding and throughout the term of the loan
  • Facilitates workshops on topics including, but not limited to, credit building, budgeting, debt management, and asset building
  • Creates personalized goal-focused action plans with each client and provides follow-up support to increase likelihood of forward progress
  • Assists clients in project-specific grant applications when applicable
  • Assists clients in city, state or federal benefits screening on an as-needed basis
  • Connects clients to external referrals on an as-needed basis
  • Advocates on behalf of clients with collection agents, banks, and third party institutions on an as-needed basis
  • Works with delinquent clients to design case-specific debt repayment plans
  • Provides other client-centered services as delegated by AVP of Technical Assistance

Admin/Departmental Support

  • Pulls, reviews and archives credit reports of each technical assistance recipient
  • Keeps detailed records of client sessions and workshops to track hours and outcomes metrics
  • Coordinates and confirms borrower participation in FINANTA workshops
  • Coordinates with lenders to provide technical assistance
  • Coordinates internal collection efforts with loan servicing department
  • Provides feedback on departmental growth

Marketing and Outreach

  • Represents FINANTA at networking events in the community when needed
  • Attends conferences and workshops as required by funders or when deemed beneficial for the individual and/or organization
  • Bachelor or Associates degree with at least 2 years of relevant work experience, preferably in one or more of the following fields: credit counseling, financial education, financial coaching, financial services, banking, and adult education
  • Spanish and English Fluency required. French proficiency a plus.
  • Excellent people skills with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team
  • Resourcefulness in setting priorities, managing workloads, and proposing new ways of creating work flow efficiencies
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced work environment
  • Flexibility in last-minute scheduling changes and a self-starter attitude
  • Responds promptly to customer requests for service and assistance
  • Responds to management direction; takes responsibility for own actions; keeps commitments; completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternate plan for completion
